Is
best known in the local Jazz circles as
“Saxophonist Extraordinaire”
for his smooth and
melodic, yet electrifying and explosive style of performing.
The source of Don’s appeal is his ability to make us feel what
he feels while playing a song; whether it’s the powerful, heart
thumping beats of his up-tempo tunes or the irresistibly soulful
sounds of his slower, jazzy emotions. Don’s brand of music fits
in well with the Smooth Jazz or Wave format. Many people have
said that to see and hear Don “The One” Bell perform onstage is
an unforgettable experience. He is, in the truest sense, the all
around performer by interacting with his audience and engaging
them in conversation in between songs.
He is known for stepping
offstage during a song and walking through his audience, playing
to each table as if they were the only people in the room.
Throughout any performance, Don will pick up any of his three
saxophones – tenor, alto or soprano, playing each one
beautifully, with the same intensity, no matter what the style
of music.
Don
had early influences in jazz, listening to John Coltrane,
Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie, and later, to a
variety of such well-known artists as James Brown, Grover
Washington, Jr., Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, The Gap Band
and Marvin Gaye. Within this vast array of various musical
interests, Don developed a multifaceted style of writing,
composing and producing songs, which include Jazz, R&B, Pop,
Hip-Hop, Rap and Gospel.
Over the
years Don has had the opportunity to perform with Joe Sample,
Less McCann, Bobbie Womack, The Gap Band, The Platters and Ike
Turner. Don’s most recent performance has been on the ever
popular show “Sex in the City” where he is the featured sax
soloist on the theme song.
Now, with
his much anticipated CD release, which is written, arranged and
produced by
Don “The One” Bell,
it will no doubt please audiences worldwide!
